Rachel Allen-Mepham

Independent midwife

Based in East Sussex, I care for women and families across Sussex and Kent, and occasionally a little beyond. I offer true personalised midwifery throughout pregnancy, birth and the first postpartum weeks. I believe pregnancy and birth are among the greatest transitions of our lives, and shape our lifetimes. The way we are cared for during this season ripples out into our babies, our families and the generations that follow; this experience deserves more than appointments and checklists. I want to honour it through relationship, true continuity and loving care.

My support is rooted in evidence but always centres on the individual woman in front of me. I am always most interested in what is right for you and your family. I believe physiology needs protecting and relationships need nurturing, but above all, every family deserves the time and space to find the path that feels right for them.

I have a particular affinity for families who find themselves questioning the mainstream. Families choosing home birth, extended breastfeeding, co-sleeping, slower rhythms of family life, different approaches to health, education and parenting. Not because there is one right way to raise a family, but because every family deserves to explore their way, free from judgment.

My experience includes home birth, VBAC, and HBAC, alongside additional training in breech and twins birth with Breech Without Borders and Dr Stuart Fischbein, birth biomechanics with Molly O'Brien, and aromatherapy for pregnancy and birth. As an Independent Midwife, I offer full continuity of care throughout pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period, alongside bespoke antenatal and postnatal packages for families needing additional support.

My hope is that every family who works with me feels held, deeply known and lovingly supported. That they feel prepared and supported for birth, whatever path it takes, and that the stories they carry from this unique time are ones of joy, understanding, courage and gentle acceptance—stories that become part of the foundation on which they build their family.
