Angie is a highly experienced midwife who brings a wide range of skills to Womb and Bloom. She is based near Lewes in East Sussex, and provides care at home (and in hospital support) for families across Sussex. She is also happy to offer phone or video consultations for those who are further away and want to access her specialist knowledge and skills.
After a long NHS career, including specialist posts covering diabetes in pregnancy, bereavement care and fetal medicine, Angie has worked as an independent midwife since 2019. She loves the flexibility that independent midwifery brings, fitting her services to you and your family. Angie works with those facing very complex pregnancies as well as those experiencing straightforward pregnancies (more info is available on her website). She supports births at home and in the hospital – always basing her advice on your individual situation. Clients enjoy her straightforward, open and honest approach.
Angie’s career began as a nursery nurse in 1978, followed by many years as a registered nurse in a wide variety of settings, and culminated in her goal of becoming a midwife in 2010. She’s also had 3 children (2 born at home), qualified as a counsellor, run a small farm, worked as a midwife in rural Malawi and much, much more. Her NHS midwifery work included a number of specialist roles, which means that she is an ideal person to talk to if your journey (or hoped-for journey) looks a bit complicated.
Angie offers both single appointments and packages of midwifery care. She is always delighted to meet those planning pregnancy for a pre-conception health check and discussion. Antenatal care in your home, at a time to suit you, can be provided as well as, or instead of, NHS care. Whatever time, place, and mode of birth are right for you, Angie will support. She can provide full care for a homebirth or can accompany you to provide support and continuity if you give birth in a hospital. After the baby is born, Angie offers various plans for visits as you assimilate this new version of life. She has extensive skills in baby feeding and is currently training as a IBCLC Lactation consultant and loves spending time with you as you figure out how parenting works for your family.
In more specialist roles, Angie has a great deal of experience with complex pregnancy. She has supported many families experiencing baby loss and pregnancy after loss. Her knowledge and expertise enable her to support families when concerns about the baby’s growth & wellbeing are raised after screening tests or scans. Angie offers NIPT and RhD (rhesus) testing, as well as routine blood tests.
Based in Sussex, near Lewes, Angie offers a visiting service throughout Sussex (sometimes beyond). Telephone/video consultations are also offered.
Angie is also a PMA and is happy to provide mentoring, reflective opportunities or to undertake practice reviews with colleagues.
