A tongue tie, also known as ankyloglossia, is diagnosed when the thin membrane under the tongue, the frenulum, reduces tongue function making it difficult for babies to breast or bottle feed.

​

Yes, bottle fed babies can have difficulties feeding with reduced tongue function. These babies can benefit from having a tongue tie release - also known as Frenulotomy. Not all babies with a visible frenulum have a tongue tie.

​

These are some of the symptoms that could be experienced by mum and baby.

​

• Mum might experience sore or damaged nipples, misshapen or blanched nipples after feeding, mastitis, low milk supply

• Baby might experience difficulty opening the mouth wide enough, shallow latch, short & frequent or extremely long feeds, clicking and or dribbling when feeding, reflux, excessive weight loss, slow weight gain

• Difficulty latching or staying latched to breast or bottle

I provide the convenience of home visits or a clinic for your tongue tie appointments plus continuity of support is available remotely for as long as needed to ensure that as changes happen your confidence in recognising normality grows.

As an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), I have undertaken additional training to support families with breastfeeding.

​

I can help with both basic and complex breastfeeding challenges.

​

As an IBCLC I am regulated by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) and work within a code of professional conduct and subject to disciplinary procedure. To maintain this accreditation I am required to recertify every 5 years.

​

Parents are more likely to stop breastfeeding in the first month when they experience problems. Working with a lactation consultant as early as possible can help resolve issues such as sore nipples, inadequate milk supply (real or perceived), and difficulties with breastfeeding.

​

Never accept that pain is a normal part of breastfeeding and that “your nipples will toughen up”, this is a misconception and is more likely to lead to breastfeeding ending long before intended.

Clinic Based Appointments (London)- Total fee £220, for assessment and frenulotomy.

 

• Initial feeding and tongue tie assessment £160 – up to 60mins 

• Frenulotomy £60 in addition to the fee of the initial appointment ​

• Includes telephone and email support for 4 weeks

• Follow up appointment £75 – 30mins

• Booking deposit £50 – non-refundable if cancelled within 24hrs of the appointment.
