Charlotte Harris

Birth & Postnatal Doula

07792 240734

Home, birth centre or hospital. Physiological birth, induction or planned caesarean. There isn’t one 'right' way to give birth, and I’m not here to steer you towards my version of a good birth. I’m here to help you understand your options, work out what matters to you and feel genuinely supported in the choices you make.

I have a balanced view of birth. I believe deeply in birth as a natural physiological process, while also being realistic about the times medical support can be helpful or necessary. I love evidence and information, but I also believe there’s a place for instinct and intuition too.

A bit about me

I’m Charlotte, a birth doula based in West Sussex, supporting families across Sussex, Surrey and SW London.

I came to this work after the birth of my first baby in 2020, taking just a brief pause (I couldn't stay away for long!) to have my second daughter on Boxing Day '24. I’ve supported over 60 families to welcome their own babies, alongside training in hypnobirthing, biomechanics, traditional postpartum methods and reiki.

But outside of birth, I’m also very much a normal human. I love slow mornings spent in nature, kitchen discos, 5pm spicy margs, an evening of yoga and a sound bath and scrolling on Vinted!

So what do I actually do?

During pregnancy, we spend time getting to know each other properly. We talk about birth physiology, your options and preferences, your fears, previous experiences and what helps you feel safe.

Depending on what feels right for you, I might bring in techniques such as breathwork, hypnobirthing, energy work or gentle movement. There’s no checklist. Everything is guided by you, how you're feeling and what seems useful in that moment.

During labour, I’m paying attention to the whole picture: how you’re doing, what your nervous system is doing, how baby may be moving through the pelvis, whether changing position could help, whether you need information, whether your partner needs reassurance, or whether everybody simply needs to take a moment to let you lead. I work alongside midwives and medical teams, not against them. I’m there to help you understand what’s happening, ask questions and make sure your voice remains at the centre of your care.

What matters to me

Nobody can promise you a particular kind of birth.

What I can do is help you go into it feeling informed, prepared and supported, and stay alongside you if things change.

I want you to feel listened to, emotionally safe, and confident asking questions. I want your partner to feel supported and involved. Most importantly, I want you to come away feeling that this was your birth. That might mean an undisturbed homebirth. It might mean an epidural, induction or caesarean. It might look completely different from anything you imagined!

Working with me

I support people planning and experiencing all kinds of births, including homebirth, hospital birth, caesarean birth, VBAC, VBA2C, HBAC, breech birth, premature birth, birth following IVF and twin birth. I’ve worked with same sex couples and solo mums.

The Full Journey Package includes phone and text support throughout pregnancy and into the postnatal period, three in-depth antenatal sessions (9 hours total), digital resources and evidence-based guidance, and support creating your birth preferences. I’m on call 24/7 from 10 days before your due date until your baby arrives, offering continuous in-person support throughout labour and the first precious hours afterwards. You’ll also have trusted back-up doula support should it ever be needed. After birth, I’ll visit you at home to support your recovery, feeding and transition into life with your baby, with continued phone and text support as you find your feet as a family.

If you’ve read all of this and thought, yes, she sounds like my kind of person, then chances are we’ll probably get along. You don’t need to know exactly what kind of birth you want or have everything figured out before you contact me. We can start exactly where you are.
