When Two Become Three
Having your first baby is a life-changing experience — joyful, exciting and, at times, unexpectedly difficult. The transition from being a couple to becoming parents can place new pressures on even the strongest relationship.Sleep deprivation, changing roles, less time together, differences in parenting styles, intimacy, communication and the sheer demands of caring for a baby can leave couples feeling disconnected or overwhelmed. Sometimes, the relationship can become a crisis point when both partners are simply trying to find their way through a huge life transition. Couples therapy can offer a space to pause, reconnect and understand what is happening between you, before difficulties become entrenched.
You don't need to be in crisis to seek support. Therapy can be particularly valuable during pregnancy, as you prepare for the arrival of your baby, or in those early months when everything feels new and unfamiliar.
As a couples therapist and psychotherapist, I can help you navigate the transition from two to three, strengthen your communication, understand each other's needs and build a more secure foundation for your family.
Becoming parents changes your relationship — but it doesn't have to mean losing the connection you had as a couple.
