Where do you most feel undisturbed, unobserved and safe?

These are vital considerations when planning where to birth your baby.

When birthing at home:

  • You are 40% less likely to give birth by caesarean section

  • You are 50% less likely to give birth by operative vaginal birth (forceps/ventouse)

  • You are 70% less likely to use an epidural

  • You are 55% less likely to have an episiotomy

  • You are 40% less likely to have a 3rd or 4th degree tear

  • There are 75% fewer reporting of maternal infection

  • You are 60% less likely to receive oxytocin augmentation of labour

The place where you feel most comfortable, safe & relaxed is where oxytocin will thrive which means : A shorter labour Feeling more relaxed More comfortable labour Less chance of interventions Less likely to have a post partum haemorrage Increased chance of VBAC (Vaginal birth after caesarean) Less chance of getting an infection

While we understand homebirth isnt for everyone, knowing this information allows you to consider the place where your Oxytocin will best thrive. Even if you are planning to go to hospital, you will spend time at home. If you did decide to agree to Induction of labour (after considering carefully the benefits and RISKS), being in a safe, undisturbed and unobserved environment to allow your birth to unfold in its own time, on your terms, in your way.
