The word “doula” comes from a Greek word meaning “woman’s servant”. Doulas are trained, non-medical professionals who provide continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to women before, during and after childbirth to facilitate the best possible birth experience.
As postnatal doulas, our role is to make the parents feel confident, protect their space, and be the presence that creates a calm, trusting, and peaceful environment as you transition to becoming new parents.
There is evidence to show that having a doula can mean:
-
Increased likelihood of successfully establishing breastfeeding & breastfeeding at 6 weeks.
-
Lower incidence of depressive symptomatology.
-
Improve equity and provide culturally responsive care.
